Bernice C. (Taubenheim) Weber
Bernice C. (Taubenheim) Weber, 93, formerly of 1512 S. 24th Street, passed away Thursday evening, February 14, 2008 at Harmony House where she had been residing. Born May 7, 1914 in Sheboygan, Bernice was a daughter of the late Henry and Allie Pease Taubenheim. She attended Jefferson School and graduated from Central High School in 1932. On August 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Melvin L. Weber at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. They were married for 60 years before Melvin preceded her in death on August 12, 1997. Bernice and Mel opened Mel's Food Shoppe which was located on the corner of 14th Street & Michigan Avenue. In 1954 they added on the B&M Cafeteria which they owned and operated until they sold it in 1975. Following retirement, she and Mel had a motor paper route for the Sheboygan Press and Milwaukee Journal. She had previously worked at Hand Knit Hosiery (Wigwam Mills), the H.C. Prange Co. and Troy Laundry in Sheboygan. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. Bernice was a Girl Scout Leader, worked the voting poles and was a volunteer at Bethesda. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ronald Even, Howards Grove; two grandchildren, Lori Even, Sheboygan, and Chad (Tiffany) Even, Greenville, WI; one great granddaughter, Madilyn Even, Greenville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Taubenheim, Sheboygan, and a brother-in-law, Wilmer (Gloria) Weber, Brownsville, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Elwin Taubenheim, one sister-in-law, and two brother-in-laws. Funeral services for Bernice will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2008, at the Lippert-Olson Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Alan Kretschmar, pastor of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place in Garden Terrace Mausoleum in Lutheran Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
