John Scheidel, Jr.

 

John Scheidel, Jr., 86, of 2308 N. 23rd Street, passed away Monday morning, May 12, 2008 at the Sheboygan Progressive Care Center.

Born February 25, 1922 in Sheboygan, John was a son of the late John and Sophie Neiderquell Scheidel. He was a graduate of Tripoli High School in Tripoli, WI. From 1941 to 1945, John served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed at Pier 18 in Staten Island, NY. On May 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Arnst. They were married for 59 years before Dorothy preceded him in death on July 16, 2007.

John was a foreman and supervisor for the City of Sheboygan, Department of Public Works, for 34 years, retiring in 1982.

He is survived by his four children, James Scheidel, Sheboygan, Cindy (Mark) Crabbe, Hendersonville, NC, Jerold Scheidel, Sheboygan, and Christine Scheidel, Plymouth; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Erma Lund, Sheboygan; a sister-in-law, Edie Fahl, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents and wife, Dorothy, John was preceded in death by his brother, Paul, and two sisters, Frieda Erich and Sophie Aho.

Funeral services for John will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the  Lippert-Olson Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Gregory Whelton will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Lutheran Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
