Ruth B. Richardson

Ruth Bridgman Richardson, age 93, died peacefully at the Sheboygan Senior Community on April 22, 2008.

Ruth was born March 21, l915 in Madison, Wisconsin to the late Dr. Edward Payson and Minnie Lou Taylor Bridgman. She graduated from the old Wisconsin High School in Madison and earned a Bachelor of Music degree/minor in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in June, l936. While at the University, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Prior to her marriage to John Henry Richardson of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin June 14, 1940, Ruth was supervisor of music in the Sheboygan Falls and Jefferson, Wisconsin Public Schools.

After her marriage, she became a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheboygan Falls where she served as choir director and organist for a number of years. Ruth also served on the Vestry and St. Peter's Women's Auxiliary.

Ruth spent many rewarding years as Clerk of the Sheboygan Falls Board of Education. She was active in her community as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She was a Meals on Wheels and hospital volunteer. Ruth was a member of Chapter CJ/P.E.O. Sisterhood, a life-long member of Pine Hills Country Club, a former member of the Sheboygan Dancing Club and was active in the Sheboygan Elks Lodge .

Ruth's interests included music, cooking, reading, bridge, swimming, bowling, cross-country skiing and golf. She had a hole-in-one at Oak Crest golf course in Norway, Michigan while golfing with her daughter, Mary and sister Caryl. She especially enjoyed travel in the U.S. and Europe with her husband. After his death, she spent the winter months in Florida and Arizona. Her greatest joy was time spent with family and friends. She was a loving and wonderful role model to all of them. Her impeccable manners, sympathetic ear, ready smile and presence will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Caryl Bridgman Butler (Fred), Marian Bridgman Olsen (Jim), and brother-in-law, William H. Richardson, Sr. (Kathryn), niece, Susan Richardson Slade, and her infant grandson, Arthur John Imig.

Ruth is survived by her three children, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren: Nancy(Art) Imig of Sheboygan, WI and their children: Mary (Steve) Gallimore, Sheboygan, WI and their children, Olivia, Jairus and Nolan; Katie (Jay) Maki, Kohler, WI and their children, Ben and Davis; Sarah (Bill) Slessman, Paradise Valley, AZ and their children, Will and Charlie and Rob (Shirley) Imig, New York, N.Y.; Mary (David G.) Johnson, Iron Mountain, MI and their daughter, Christy Pendleton, Burlington, KY and her daughter, Kelsey; and John Henry Richardson, Jr. (Ruth), Cumming, GA, and their children, John Henry Richardson III (Mary), Big Sky, MT, Matthew (Suzy) Richardson, Kennesaw, GA and their daughters, Kylie and Alyssa.

She is also survived by two nieces and five nephews.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2007 at St. Peter Episcopal Church, 632 Buffalo Street, Sheboygan Falls. The Rev. Samuel Nsengiyumva will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Thursday, May 8, 2008 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Inurnment will take place in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Ruth's name to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Sheboygan Falls, WI , Grace Episcopal Church, Sheboygan, WI, Sheboygan Senior Community, Sheboygan, WI and Heartland Hospice of Fond du Lac, WI.
