Roland E. Lippert

 

Roland E. Lippert, age 78, owner and president of Lippert Funeral Home, Inc., died at Heritage Nursing Center on Wednesday, April 3, 1996, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born July 30, 1917, in the Town of Liberty, Manitowoc County, to the late Fredrick and Ella Pleuss Lippert. He attended Liberty Township Grade School and graduated from Valders High School in 1935. Roland served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, during WW II, and was stationed at Camp Perry in Sandusky, OH. He attained the rank of sergeant. On June 5, 1943, he was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Aders in Sandusky, OH.

 

Mr. Lippert graduated from Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, Milwaukee, WI, in 1956. Being the oldest member of the class he was affectionately called "Pappy" by his classmates. He was licensed as a funeral director and embalmer by the State of Wisconsin in 1957.

 

In 1969, Roland and Evelyn moved to Sheboygan and he began working for Nickel's Funeral Home. He purchased the funeral home in 1976 and it was renamed Nickel-Lippert Funeral Home. In 1990, the name was changed to Lippert Funeral Home, Inc. He previously worked for Notbohm Funeral Home, Pagenkopf Funeral Home and Lyke-Clasen Funeral Home in Oconomowoc, WI. 

 

Roland was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ where he served three terms as Congregational President, on the church council for several years, the Churchmen's Brotherhood, and as an usher for many years. He was a member of Sheboygan Noon Kiwanis Club, serving as club president in 1976-77. He served on the board of directors for Hearthside Home, as a volunteer for Lakeland College fund raising projects, and as a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years. He was a member of Sheboygan Elk's Lodge No. 299 and the Elk's National Foundation. He was also a member of the National Funeral Director's Assn., Wisconsin F.D.A., American Legion Prescott-Baynes Post No. 83, and U.C.T. 

 

Roland is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his son and his wife, J. Michael and Pamela; his daughter and her husband, Linda and Charles Bartel; two grandchildren, Kristin (Matt) Woychek, Urbandale, IA, James Lippert, Ann Arbor, MI; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Jennifer Woychek, Urbandale, IA; five sisters, Gwen (Alfred) Schmidt, Carmen (Charles) Ryan, Jeanette Pankratz, Audrey (Roman) Kugle, all of Manitowoc, Kathi Lippert, Sun Valley, CA and one brother, Elton (Setsuko) Lippert, Tacoma, WA. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ervin and Kenneth and an infant brother and sister, Harold and Marian.

 

Funeral services for Roland E. Lippert will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, at St. John's United Church of Christ, N. 13th St. & Lincoln Ave. The Rev. Gregory Whelton, pastor, will officiate. Entombment will be in Garden Terrace Mausoleum of Lutheran Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome at the Lippert Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Ave., on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the church, on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services. A memorial service by the Sheboygan Elk's Lodge No. 299 will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed by a memorial service by the St. John's Brotherhood at 6:30 p.m.(return)

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in his name for St. John's U.C.C and the V.N.A Hospice Program.
