JJulia E. Olson

Julia E. Olson, 90, formerly of 21st Street, passed away Friday morning, January 13, 2012 at Sunny Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born January 9, 1922 in Sheboygan, Julia was a daughter of the late Oscar and Minnie Dressler Meinhardt. Julie's family have been residents of Sheboygan for many generations. At least four generations of her family have been buried in Lutheran Cemetery. The barn her father built on top of the hill on Blackstock Road overlooking the Pigeon River still stands. She is descended from a tailor on her mother's side and inherited that talent for sewing and design. Her mother taught her to value pretty linens and tablecloths and Julie's table was always set for company.

During the years of the great depression, her family relocated to Dunn County and farmed near Colfax, WI. It was there she met the love of her life, Juel. When W.W.II began, Juel volunteered to join the Army Air Corps.

Julie and her oldest daughter, Joan, still a baby, returned to the Sheboygan area and made their home with her older sister while Juel served in the military. When Juel returned, they built their dream home on 21st Street in Sheboygan and soon thereafter, their second daughter Janice was born.

Julie helped many of her relatives and friends over the years and was always there to baby-sit for her many grandnieces and grandnephews as well as for her own grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her family of eight brothers and sisters and is loved by all her family.

Julie sewed beautifully and often designed and sewed clothing, not just for her own daughters, but for her dear sister's daughters as well. She would make modifications to the same pattern so that each little girl had her own unique dress style. Julie was active in her church Mother's Club. Later on, as the girls grew up, Julie began working outside of the home as a floral designer. She became one of the best floral designers in the area and was often asked to do wedding and funeral work for many prominent families in the area. She did all the flowers for her own girl's weddings.

Juel and Julie hosted a trip to Hawaii and the other islands and made sure they visited the Arizona Memorial while there. Julie had many fond memories of that trip. She had always been very patriotic and has had an article published in the American Legion Magazine. Julie continued her creative work and made corsages and baskets for friends. She enjoyed reading and listening to her large music collection. Julie had many fond memories of her mother, who also lived at Sunny Ridge, and loved to share stories from the past. She had a good sense of humor and liked to tease.

She is survived by her two daughters and the two best son-in-laws in the world, Joan (Edward) Lohr, Ada, MI, and Janice (James) Hill, Sheboygan; six grandchildren, Garret (Michelle) Lohr, Ada, MI, Matthew Lohr, Baltimore, MD, Sara (Gary) Ezinga, Holland, OH, Carrie (Scott) Hendricks, Arlington, TX, Rebecca (Brian) Theis, Sheboygan, and Martha Hill, Sheboygan; seven great grandchildren, Alexander and Olivia Ezinga, Chantele Lohr, Dylan, Kaitlin and Macayla Hendricks and Emma Lohr; a special niece, Debbie Cook; other nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

Besides her husband, Juel, she was preceded in death by her seven brothers and sisters, Orlando, Theodore, Milton, Reuben, Kurt, Lorraine and Shirley; and two special nieces, Joan and Betty Adams.

Christian Graveside services for Julia were held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Lutheran Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Mealiff officiating.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Sunny Ridge 2SE and Michelle Ellefson from Evercare Hospice for all of their loving care and support.

A memorial fund has been established in Julie's name for the charity of one's choice.
