The History of Lippert-Olson Funeral Home, Inc.

Lippert Funeral Home, Inc. is a continuation of the Nickel & Diehl Funeral Service which began serving Sheboygan area families, in 1892, from the original location at 1520 Calumet Dr.

In 1932, the name was changed to Nickel's Funeral Home and moved to the present location at 1132 Superior Ave. The building has had many renovations over the years, beginning as a stately private home as pictured above.

In the mid-1940's, the building was refaced with lannon stone and the porch was enclosed to enlarge the chapel area.

The East Chapel was added in the mid-1950's.

The house next door to the funeral home was purchased and torn down to make a parking lot.

In 1990, an addition to make the funeral home handicap accessible, was completed

The funeral home was owned and operated by Jacob and Meta Nickel. Meta was the first woman licensed as a funeral director in the State of Wisconsin in 1934. Jacob died in 1967 and, in 1969, Roland E. Lippert was hired as funeral director and manager.

Roland assumed ownership of the funeral home in 1976 and it became Nickel-Lippert Funeral Home. Meta Nickel retired that year and the funeral home was operated by Roland, his wife, Evelyn, and daughter, Linda. On August 15, 1978, Roland's son, J. Michael Lippert, joined the firm as an apprentice. Mike successfully completed the funeral service program of M.A.T.C. in Milwaukee and received his Wisconsin funeral director/embalmer's license in 1981. In 1982, Mike became vice-president of the corporation. In 1986, Linda's husband, Charles H. Bartel, began his apprenticeship with the firm and, following his graduation from M.A.T.C. with an associate degree in funeral service, Chuck was licensed as a funeral director/embalmer in 1988. On January 1, 1990, the funeral home was incorporated as Lippert Funeral Home, Inc.

After Roland's death on April 3, 1996, following 41 years in funeral service, Evelyn became the majority stockholder of the firm. In 1998, stock ownership was transferred to Mike, Linda and Chuck. On June 11, 2001, Evelyn Lippert passed away at the age of 86. After 20 years with the firm, Mike made the decision to retire on August 31, 2001. On August 1, 2001, Mike sold his stock in the company to James M. Olson. On November 1, 2001 the name of the firm was changed to Lippert-Olson Funeral Home. On November 17, 2002, Linda Bartel retired and sold her shares of the company to James M. Olson who is now the majority stock holder.
