John Dern John "Jack" Dern, 80, died peacefullyTuesday, February 26, 2008 at Golden Living Center. Born February 16, 1928 to the late Roland and Cora Nehf Dern. On February 23, 1952 he married Joan Hensel. He was a well know chef at Durwards Supper Club, Hoffman's at Riverdale and retired from the American Club at Kohler. Following his retirement he worked part time at Miesfeld's Market. Woodworking was a long time hobby of Jack's along with using the Library in later years. Jack served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. Jack was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church serving the church as an Elder, an Usher, serving on the Building Planning Committee and was a member of the Senior Citizens Club. He is survived by his wife Joan; one son Mark ( Katie) Dern, Sheboygan; one daughter, Jane (Gary) Foat, East Troy, WI; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister Cora Schultz; one brother Arthur Dern; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by seven sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2008, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church , 1818 N. 13th St., with the Rev. Alan Kretschmar, Pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be in Garden Terrace Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for the Blessed to be a Blessing Memorial Fund at St. Paul Church. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Golden Living Center for the loving care they gave John.
