- Thoughts for the Families We Serve
By Todd W. Van Beck The swift passing of the seasons brings all of us at times to think upon the length of life, as friends and loved ones come and leave, and as we ourselves face this with such uncertainties. Life is not fair and it can at times be very difficult. No one of us knows how long he or she will live, how long our loved ones will live. "No man can be ignorant that he must die," said Cicero, "nor be sure that he may not this very day." But beyond all this, beyond all the fretting, worrying, and brooding about the length of life, there is evidence everywhere to quiet our hearts, to offer some peace and faith for the future, and assurances that we can count on. Spring returned again this year. We knew it would - and it did. The sun showed itself again this morning. We knew it would - and it did. And just so surely as all this, our pain and grief will also change and lessen over time. Grief is the only thing in life that starts big and gets little - takes time, but it does happen. And with all the sorrow and grief, loss of loved ones, loneliness, there is this we may know: there are people out there that can help. There are hundreds of individuals, groups, agencies, etc. whose mission in life is to help the grieving, to touch the grieving heart, to quiet and soften sorrow, and to give assurance that we so much seek, as each day brings its undisclosed events in our bereavement journey, We came; we live; we leave. Our loved ones leave. All of us know loneliness; all of us search ourselves, and ask for answers - Peace, comfort and quietness is possible, healing is possible - better day are possible. Reach out and help is there - this you can count on.
